“Meow Kali” 2026

This is the second piece I completed in the cat collection. When I finished “Orange Cat Behavior” I realized I really loved the style language I was developing here and wanted to embark on making a truly cohesive series of work (something I have not successfully done before). This one took me longer. I struggled to get it to flow out properly, maybe that has to do with the subject matter and also likely going outside of the box with the color palette.

Kali is a Hindu goddess of Time, Death, and Destruction. She acknowledges the darkness and cruelty of existence in the physical realm. Her appearance is often viewed in a different emotional context by the west (one of wildness and enragement), rather than of shame. We often assume physical and facial expressions to transcend language and cultural differences, but they are simply part of it.

I’ve found this interpretive ambiguity very interesting for such a visually striking archetype. But the intensity is there, I wanted to do my best to capture and explore this idea.
