“Within, Without” 2026

I began this painting during a difficult time. I was going through some old sketches and found one that I drew as a self-portrait when I was at one of my lowest points in 2021. I had recently moved back to Asheville after having to live with my parents again and deciding to take my creative pursuits seriously for the first time.

The sketch was me, with a relatively wild look in the eyes, brain lifting out of the skull!

Needless to say I felt outside of myself at the time.

There is much more contained in this piece than it’s original idea-seed.
